David Hernandez invites us, with suggested congenial coffee breaks, to join him in a quest for our true identity as humanity, and to discover our own personal ‘I Am’, created in the image of our Creator, the uncreated ‘I Am’.
In this studious yet poetic work Dave treads the rich soil of the early Church Fathers as he places the Trinity front and centre and presents fresh gleanings of the powerful and purposeful Trinitarian love that first embraced humanity as ‘family’ before the foundation of the world. While human Redemption is the silver thread that he follows through the discourse, he underscores that with the golden thread of Adoption, a subject too often neglected. He awakens the reader to be drawn into the gravitational pull of this Trinitarian belonging and to experience for themselves the ‘Now Presence’ of a loving God and the inner work of ‘Older Brother’, Jesus, in our lives. The framework of the narrative is presented as two lectures; the first lecture by the first Adam of Genesis, and the second by the last Adam, Jesus Christ of Eternity. While this framework is warm and engaging, the content of their lectures is penetrating and at times even confronting. The author artfully blends framework and content into a humble but robust challenge to all of us who would seek to know God, and be transformed into our ‘True Selves’ in Him. I encourage you to pick this book up and have a good read – and don’t forget the coffee! Paul O’Sullivan Pastor, Northern Beaches Christian Centre, Mona Vale, Sydney.
